Onika Tanya Maraj (born December 8, 1984), better known by her stage name Nicki Minaj is a rapper and singer-songwriter who was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, but moved to the Queens borough of New York City as a child and graduated from LaGuardia High School in 2003. She released her first mixtape Playtime Is Over in 2007, which was followed by Sucka Free and Beam Me Up Scotty in 2008 and 2009, respectively. Minaj was discovered by fellow American rapper Lil Wayne and signed a deal to Young Money Entertainment with distribution from Universal Motown in August 2009.Her debut studio album Pink Friday (2010) became a commercial success, peaking atop of the U.S.

Billboard 200 and being certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) a month after its release.She became the first artist ever to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Her second single, "Your Love", reached number-one on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart, making Minaj the first female artist to top the chart unaccompanied since 2002. She also became the first female artist to be included on MTV's Annual Hottest MC List.

Bringing her always-unique look to Sin City, Nicki Minaj turned up for the 2011 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday evening (May 22).

Held at the MGM Grand, the "Pink Friday" hitmaker dazzled while working the red carpet before heading inside to prep for her performance alongside tour mate Britney Spears.

As for the show, the Ken Jeong hosted Billboard Music Awards also features performances by big names including Ke$ha, Jennifer Lopez, the Black Eyed Peas, Lil Wayne and numerous other top acts.

With presenters including Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Joe Jonas and Matthew Morrison, award hopefuls include a pack-leading Rihanna with 18 nominations followed by Eminem (16), Lady Gaga (12) and Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars with 11 each.

Taking over the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears got together for a very special performance this evening (May 22).

The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was taken by storm as the “Pink Friday” rapper and the “Baby One More Time” songstress teamed up for a duet of “Til the World Ends.”


Prior to that, Miss Minaj busted out a killer performance of her latest hit single “Superbass” much to the delight of the crowd.

2011 Billboard Music Awards: The Show, The Winners

With another high profile ceremony having come and gone, the winners from the 2011 Billboard Music Awards were announced on Sunday night (May 22).

The Ken Jeong hosted event was held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Taylor Swift emerging as the big winner upon taking home three trophies including Top Artist.

Other artists enjoying a successful evening included Justin Bieber as Top New Artist (along with a slate of accompanying hardware) and Rihanna as Top Female Artist.

Performers taking the stage during the Billboard Music Awards included Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Far East Movement, Mary J Blige and Lil Wayne while Beyonce was feted with the Billboard Millenium Award for her career achievements.

A few days ago, Britney Spears released an official remix for her current hit "Till the World Ends" featuring future tourmate Nicki Minaj as well as the song's original co-writer, Ke$ha. The track opens with a concentrated diss from Ms. Minaj, most likely directed at none other than Lil' Kim, with a cutting exit line: "You was hot when? Ricki Lake!"

Minaj half-explained via Twitter, "I used to loooove me some Ricki Lake!" Meaning, the subject of the diss has not been popular since the days of Ricki Lake's talk show (i.e. the '90s).

Although her name is being used to put someone down, Lake has taken the namecheck as a compliment. She tweeted Monday evening, "So apparently I'm trending... Thanks @nickiminaj.... makes me feel almost like a #kardashian. :)"
